Every couple should have their unique love language. Not guided by what the world says it should look like or be. But guided by what each partner wants and needs from each other.
One couple’s love language may look strange to another. But it doesn’t matter if it works for them – it works for them.
When I was younger I would look at my parents marriage and think how weird. They were married for 50 years before my mom passed away.
Now that I’ve been married for several decades, I understand.

The 5 Love Languages, Explained
- Words of Affirmation – Hearing that you appreciate each other for particular things means a lot. But on the other side of that coin, when insults or verbal abuse are used, this can be hurtful to the relationship.
- Gifts – This is more than just handing them cologne, flowers, or jewelry. This area also includes going to the movies, concerts, and traveling. This couple enjoys celebrating occasions.
- Acts of Service – Doing the dishes, bringing home their favorite snack, and actively listening. It is important to consider them. Think about something that you know they would appreciate.
- Quality Time – This is a part of every relationship. However, if it is part of a couple’s love language, then watching their favorite show together, going out to eat, and working out together would be some of the things they enjoy doing. The key here is it is something they both enjoy doing together.
- Physical Touch – Is just that touching each other, sexual and platonic. Holding hands, massages, kissing, hugs, or intercourse.
The key is communication. I mean honest, open communication. For some, at first, it may feel awkward. But in the long run, you and your marriage can grow and become stronger from it.
