How do you express your gratitude?

Why Feeling Thankful Can Make Your Life Better.

Being thankful has many positive benefits.

But first I want to share this quick story with you all.

I have brothers who for some reason thought I was the meanest sister in the world. Whatever, what did they know?
They nicknamed me 'mean machine' whatever again.
I could not shake that name for years. When I look back on why I was so mean (besides the fact that my brothers were dumb)
I realize several things. Now, I know I was young, but I decided to examine why I was so unhappy at times, despite my childhood being great.

So, I Dug Deeper

I did not have a relationship with God, I believed in Him but I had no relationship with Him.

Therefore, I try to handle my problems. And my emotions and mood were affected by what the world tossed my way, which was usually negative.

My happy moments were just those moments; they were fleeting, and I was never truly content for any length of time. What a miserable way to live.

Some Things I Realized

Peace is a deep trust in God’s power and His grace.

  1. I did not have peace with others
  2. I did not have peace with myself
  3. Because I did not have peace with God

And there was no getting around it. I needed to develop a relationship with the One who created me, with the One who loved me unconditionally, with all my good and bad stuff.

Start Small

I asked God to show me and to help me with my negative mindset. He did, but I had to put in the work.

I started off small, and there were many bumps in the road until I truly got it.

Initially, I had to focus on my thought life, which was often dominated by negative thoughts. I realized that my thought life was 80% negativity, and that was a double ugh!

If my thought life was negative, then my mood was affected, and since my mood was negative, the words I spoke were usually negative as well.

One of the ways I was hurting myself was in what I was watching and listening to. What I was allowing to be in my space.

So I began to avoid watching things that are offensive or negative, which added nothing to my life.

I began to avoid hanging out with people who have already shown me that they cannot be trusted and were negative.

I began to protect my space and realized how sacred it was. What I learned is that when I don’t protect my space and my five senses from mess, I tend to absorb it.

And I have to make a conscious effort to remove it from my life.

Feeling thankful and being thankful are purposeful acts.

Being thankful is both an internal and external thing.

“A grateful perspective brings happiness and abundance into a person’s life.”

— Andy Andrews

I’m just thankful for the people that never left me and equally thankful for those who did.” ― Nitya Prakash

“The more you practice the art of thankfulness, the more you have to be thankful for.”

— Norman Vincent Peale

Being grateful and truly understanding where your help comes from and who your source is helps you connect to others, you are less anxious, sleep better, and or more compassionate.

There are many ways to cultivate gratitude in your life. This was one way.
