Do you remember your favorite book from childhood?

10 Best Scriptures to Pray Over Your Children

There were two books I enjoyed reading on a regular rotation as a child. They were my favorites, and I read and reread them many, many times as a child.

My first Bible was large and featured colorful pictures. I believe my grandmother gave it to me. My favorite picture and story was Daniel in the Lion’s Den. I was always drawn to that picture for some reason and would read how Daniel refused to bow down to the King.

The King made a decree that no one could pray. Daniel continued to pray and was punished for it, or at least it appeared so. God protected him and delivered him. Everyone, including the King, was amazed, and they realized the God that Daniel served was real and protected His people.

I’m not sure if I saw myself in Daniel, daring not to follow others and instead following God, or at the very least, not following other people. But it was impactful because it was then that I realized that God could protect me in all situations.

Daniel Chapter 6 verses 16-23.

The Second Book

When Mom first handed the book to us kids, I immediately took ownership of it.

It was 16 by 20 inches. It was a thin, long book with colorful pictures. I enjoyed that book. I would read and reread the words and go over them to see how the pictures matched up.

I don’t think I could read all the words at first, but I could recognize most of the pictures.

I’ve always been drawn to words.

I would spend hours reading books in my bedroom; that was my sanctuary. Picture how some children today are glued to their phones. That is how I was glued to reading.

My imagination would take off and knew no bounds. It was entertaining because when my introverted side didn’t want to be bothered, reading was what I turned to.

I would come home from school, do my chores, and then grab a snack before starting to read. Sometimes, I would read until dinner time.

Soon, my parents introduced me to the library, and it was on. That is where I spent my Saturday mornings and afternoons.

I believe it was during this period that I began to enjoy writing my thoughts out. However, at the time, I only liked doing it when I was upset about something or writing a letter to a relative.

Thankfully, it has expanded.
