Relationships have changed dramatically over the years. Today’s culture often encourages people to follow their feelings, prioritize personal happiness above all else, and redefine commitment in terms of convenience. While modern relationships have positive aspects – such as open communication, emotional awareness, and shared responsibilities – they can also leave people searching for something deeper.

The Bible

The Bible offers a different perspective. God’s design for relationships is rooted in love, sacrifice, faithfulness, forgiveness, and commitment. His principles don’t eliminate challenges, but they provide a foundation that can withstand them. When we build relationships God’s way, we find peace, security, and purpose that transcend temporary emotions.

The Positives of Modern Relationships

Modern relationships aren’t without strengths.

Many couples today:

• Communicate openly about emotions.
• Share household and financial responsibilities.
• Encourage personal growth and education.
• Value friendship within the relationship.
• Seek counselling and mental health support when needed.

The Positives of Biblical Relationships

Biblical relationships offer lasting benefits because they are built on God’s design:

• A foundation of unconditional love.
• Commitment through every season.
• Forgiveness instead of keeping score
• Trust built through integrity and honesty.
• Peace that coms from placing God at the center.

Three Tips For Doing Relationships God’s Way

When both people seek God before seeking their own desires, the relationship becomes stronger.

Love isn’t only about feelings. It means choosing kindness, patience, grace, and service every day.

Speak honestly while showing compassion. Healthy communication builds trust rather than tearing it down.

One of my favorite verses in the Bible is because I have had to dig deep in some of my relationships, past and present, when it comes to these verses.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. ⁵ It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. ⁶ Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. ⁷ It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

1 Corinthians 13:4–7 (NIV)

Every relationship faces challenges, whether it’s built on modern ideas or biblical principles. The difference lies in the foundation.

Culture shifts with each generation, but God’s Word remains constant.

A relationship centered on Christ isn’t perfect because people are perfect—it thrives because God’s love teaches us to love, forgive, serve, and remain faithful.

If you’re longing for deeper peace, stronger commitment, and lasting joy, begin by inviting God into every part of your relationship. His way may not always be the easiest, but it is always the strongest foundation.
