Bringing Back the Spark
Bringing back the spark in a relationship that chemistry that brought you two together in the first place can be challenging at times.
The excitement, attraction, and emotional intimacy that are usually present at the start of a relationship may have diminished due to life and its many happenings.
Life happens: bills, children, jobs, disappointments, misunderstandings, health issues, family drama. You know life.
That energy, the spark that the two of you share, has diminished.
If you both find yourselves saying ‘We don’t do this or that anymore,’ or when you look at each other and no longer really see each other, it may be time for some positive reconnection.
It may be time for an overhaul or a few small adjustments in your relationship.
This week I am dealing with relationships in all forms across my platforms. Husband-wife, parent-child, teacher, boyfriend-girlfriend, friends, relatives, work relationships, and many more.
I have found that one of the biggest culprits is busyness, not carving out time for each other, whether it’s in the morning, midday, or the evening.
And communication. I mean clear communication. We cannot read each other’s minds. We have to be willing to talk, to share, and open up, even when it’s initially uncomfortable. You will be glad you did. It does wonders for the relationship.
I found this article that pretty much sums it up.
13 Ways to Rekindle the Spark Back Into a Relationship
I especially like numbers 1, 2, and 4
Sometimes, reminiscing about your favorite moments together from the beginning of your relationship may be all it takes. You can start by saying, ‘Remember our first date or our first movie.’ Mention your favorite song, your favorite place, and the things you two enjoyed doing together. Then plan a date.
Accept the things you cannot change about your partner. They are who they are, just as you are who you are. If they were that way when you married them, well… that’s who they are. Examples include being late, messy, or forgetful. Work with it or around it.
And forgiveness is key. Holding on to past hurts and pain will only harm your relationship. Be willing to work through them for your health and the sake of your relationship. If you need to seek professional help for your marriage, please do so.
And remember, God says
Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
Colossians 3:13 (NIV)
