Guard Your Calm
Guard your calm from toxic people are words to live by at any age. Toxic means unpleasant or poisonous and in this case we are referring to people.
Toxic people can be in all areas of your life, a spouse, partner, children, church member, employee, employer, relatives, your neighbor, and online.
My first thoughts on people who thrive on making others unhappy – Is they are not happy themselves.
While I am sorry to hear that – that still gives them no right to try and make your life difficult. And to put it in a nutshell whenever you are around them their behavior is negative and emotional draining all the time.
I am not talking about someone that going through a bad day or a rough patch in their life. I mean it is in these individuals DNA.
So, what can you do to protect yourself?
I will name three but there are plenty more
Stop over-explaining yourself – You don’t any long drawn out explanation. They are half listening to you anyway and enjoy seeing you uncomfortable. Besides the more you explain the more they will twist your words.
Limit your access to them – Not everyone desires full access to you, your time, and your energy. Pull back with no guilt.
Trust how you feel around them – If you are feeling drained, anxious, angry, small, or unsettled. Don’t ignore it. You have your answer.
Here are a few of the many wonderful promises God has for our protection.
1. Psalm 91:11 – “For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.”
2. Ephesians 6:11 – “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”
3. 2 Thessalonians 3:3 – “But the Lord is faithful, who shall establish you, and keep you from evil.”
