Big Life Changes
What are Big Life Changes?
To a child, it may be going to school for the first time, leaving the world of their four walls and family, and stepping into the world of other preschoolers and adults.
To a parent, it may be watching their little one go to school for the first time and wanting them to be protected and accepted by their schoolmates and teachers.
For a high school graduate, it may mean going off to college or deciding what they want to do with the rest of their lives.
To a couple deciding on a job opportunity that will take them to another city, state, or country. It may seem scary and exciting!
To a person facing retirement, what now?
And for someone transitioning into senior citizen status, what does that mean? Or what will it look like?
Every phase of our lives seems to come with small changes and some big life changes.
That’s life.
The older I get, the more I welcome change in some areas, and in others, not so much.
I found this article Coping with Major Life Changes:
I like this article because when big life changes happened to me I found myself applying some of their techniques.
They say with the right mindset, you can turn change into an opportunity for growth. How true.
Here is what the article said –
- You should understand the Psychology of Change – understanding and embracing can lead to a more positive experience.
- Reframe Your Perspective – See it as an opportunity for growth.
- Get the positive support of others – talking through your feelings helps.
- Have some mercy on yourself – practice self compassion
- Set small goals – breaking down the big goals into smaller ones makes them more manageable.
- Look at change as a learning opportunity.
- You got this!
