Why More Than One Big Event Sticks in My Mind Forever
I chose this title ‘Why More Than One Big Event Sticks in My Mind Forever’ because there are actually more than one event that lingers in my mind.
The 1960s are the ones that affected me - these events changed the direction for me as an African American.
Martin Luther King Civil Rights March in Washington, ‘I Have a Dream’ speech
The sit in at a segregated Woolworth lunch counter
President John F Kennedy was assassinated
The 1970s, these are the ones that stuck in my mind -
Stephen King’s Carrie first novel came out and a movie was made out of it.
Richard Nixon resigns – He was the first
Jim Jones Massacre – at least 900 people died by suicide, including children
In 1980, these are the ones that stuck in my mind that changed my outlook on music entertainment-
The phonograph records all but disappeared
Iran-Iraq War
The Royal Wedding
Thriller
The 1990s, these are the ones that affected me on a personal level.
Mandela becomes president
Oklahoma City Bombing
Clinton is impeached
The 2000s made me see the world differently.
9/11 terrorist attacks
Columbia disaster
Hurricane Katrina
Obama makes history
Michael Jackson dies
These are just some of the events that I remember.
However, there is one thing I do know. Good or bad, my Father has always been the light of my life. That even with all of the chaos, He has been the head of my world and heart.
What to do if I lost everything?
