Rebuilding your life
The phase of rebuilding your life can sound daunting. Rebuilding means that something has been damaged and you need to start over again.
To rebuild means you’ve lost something, whether it’s your home, finances, relationships, or your job. Losing anything or anyone can be painful, especially if you didn’t see it coming due to a natural disaster or a betrayal in a relationship.
When we lose our home, we eventually find another place to live and rebuild. If we lose our finances, we rebuild them.
I will not pretend that when I lose something and realize I have to put in the work to rebuild, it’s easy. It is not!
What I’d Do First If I Lost Everything
When I lose trust in a relationship, I have to decide whether to rebuild or move on. Sometimes I move on because the relationship isn’t repairable. Either they are not willing to change, or they have decided to move on. Whatever the case, the relationship isn’t worth rebuilding.
However, how about a relationship that I decide is worth rebuilding. Well, actually we have both decided it was worth rebuilding what do you do? Where do you start?
There are several factors to consider when a relationship has been harmed by mistrust, neglect, infidelity, jealousy, or lack of support. Where do you turn, and how do you rebuild?
There are many here are a few
- Communication is essential; understanding what caused the breakdown in the first place helps. You both should make it a safe place for each other to share.
- Taking responsibility for your actions – and working through communication to understand where you both may have missed it — helps.
- Be willing to work towards forgiveness – Forgiving releases you.
- Set relationship boundaries – we all should have them. This includes how you want to be treated and what behaviors you are willing to accept.
- And seeking professional help if needed.
I realize this just skims the surface. If you want more information, I will be happy to share it.
