How to Find Joy When You’re Swamped
The title says it all. When you feel overextended or overwhelmed, take a step back and assess where you can cut out some things in your day, week, or month.
Start small and work your way up. Review your schedule for the week and decide if you need to cancel or remove some obligations. If you can do that without causing significant inconvenience to those involved, please go ahead. Sometimes you can shift the time or reschedule for another day.
The Art of Saying the Word No.
I have learned to say the word ‘no.
When I was younger, I would often overextend myself trying to please everyone, which wore me out. And the moment I said no, I wasn’t able to do that, they would get an attitude. I realized I was allowing others to take me for granted, and that I needed to shield myself from being taken advantage of.
It doesn’t matter; we all have daily obligations regardless of our status—rich, poor, single, or married.
What I have learned is that balance is the key. Too much work can lead to stress and illness. Too much play and you will have poverty and lack.
Sweet Spot
There should be a perfect balance among home, work, and play!
And I get it;
Some seasons in your life may require you to work two jobs, work and attend school, or work long hours at your job. Or care for a loved one in addition to all your other responsibilities.
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Matthew 6:33
Asking God to give you His wisdom in your day-to-day responsibilities works wonders. And it is simple.
Before you start your day, thank God for the gift of another day and ask Him to lead and guide you through your day.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
You may find yourself politely declining invitations, or an opportunity may arise for increased income, so you won’t have to work such long hours to make ends meet, or God may put it on the other person’s heart—whom you have obligated yourself to—to call and cancel.
The bottom line is to try not to extend yourself and practice self-love and self-care.
