Wisdom Trends: The Second Nugget You Need to Know

Proverbs is a treasure trove of priceless advice and wisdom. I’ve personally adhered to many of these scriptures, and in doing so, I’ve steered clear of numerous troubles.

And when I’ve strayed from these teachings, I’ve experienced the consequences. Here’s the second of three scriptures in Chapter 13 of Proverbs that I believe we all need to be reminded of from time to time.

Proverbs Chapter 13

Verse 17

A bad man brings a message, and he causes trouble to himself.

But you can trust other people to take a message. And they cause you to feel better. Easy English

This verse speaks of gossip or sharing information about someone else.

Like anything, gossip can be done to build up or tear down. Let us take a closer look at gossiping.

Gossip Defined According to Dictionaries

Collings Dictionary in the countable form means a person who enjoys talking informally to people about the affairs of others.

Webster Dictionary put it this way – to talk about the personal lives of others.

Gossip Defined According to the Bible

Ephesians 4:31

Do not become angry with people easily; do not become so angry that you cannot be kind to them. Do not quarrel or fight. Please do not shout at anyone or say bad things about them. Stop thinking bad things about anyone. Easy English

1. I believe this sums it up.
2. We are to treat each other with kindness, patience, and love.
3. Stop saying bad things about one another
4. And stop thinking bad things about one another.

Different Types of Gossip

Neutral gossip – This is considered harmless. To solely share information about someone.

Why People Gossip

Negative Gossip –

Negative Gossip – could stem from insecurities or to make oneself look important. This can damage a person’s reputation. This type of gossip will always come back to bite you.

If you gossip about someone, others assume you will gossip negatively about them and pull away from you.

They will not trust you with information, and you could become the target of negative gossip.

Positive Gossip – these builds relationships. This can be done by talking positively about the individual. This will cause those in your presence to trust you and want to build meaningful connections with you.
