Wisdom of it AllProverbs Chapter 13

Proverbs is a treasure trove of priceless advice and wisdom. I’ve personally adhered to many of these scriptures, and in doing so, I’ve steered clear of numerous troubles.

And when I’ve strayed from these teachings, I’ve experienced the consequences. Here’s the first of three scriptures in Chapter 13 of Proverbs that I believe we all need to be reminded of from time to time.

Proverbs Chapter 13

Verse 16

Careful people think before they do anything. Silly people let everybody see how silly they are. Easy English

Think It Through…

Careful people weigh the outcome. They usually think before answering. Sometimes this may be frustrating to the person who is asking however, it is a necessary process.

They think it all the way through, weigh possible outcomes, and then give their answer. Doing this can save heartache and frustration in the long run.

On The Other Hand

Many times, you can tell when a person has not thought something all the way out.

They are impulsive. They act or do without thinking

For Example,

Your friend asks you to loan them some money, and they promise to pay you back tomorrow, in a few days, or whenever.

You know that you have bills to pay, and if you loan them this money, you will not be able to pay it. However, your bill is not due until the end of the month, and after all, they are your friend, and they said they will pay it back way before then.

Therefore, you loan them the money with the promise of repayment.

On the surface it looks like this person has thought it all the way out, but let us go a little further in our thinking.

What if they do not pay you back on time or anytime? Now what? Several things can happen at this point.

You, the lender, become frustrated and upset because you cannot pay your bill, you have to borrow from someone else to pay your bill or you are late paying the bill and have interest charges.

And to add insult to injury, now there is tension between you and your friend.

What should you do or say the next time?

  1. I do not have it to lend or give at this time
  2. Or you can say politely I do not feel comfortable with you asking me to loan you money.
  3. I do not feel comfortable loaning you money.
  4. I have my bills to pay.

There are many scriptures that encourages us to count the cost. Here is one of them.

Luke Chapter 14

Verses 28, 29 and 30

Here is an example. One of you wants to build a tall building. Before he starts to build, he will sit down. He will decide how much it will cost. He needs to know if he has enough money to finish the building. Think about it.

If he does not do this, he may not have enough money. He can put the lowest stones in the ground (foundation) but he cannot finish the building. If he then has to stop, other people will laugh at him. They will say to each other,

That man is a fool. He started to build, but he could not finish.

So What Am I Saying?

Please take a moment before acting because this can protect us and others from much pain, regrets, and sorrow.

Irene, you are doing great work by getting God’s Word out there. I love the format. Reading a little each day and the prayer at the end of each section. This is great devotion material or a segment way into Bible study lessons. Please be encouraged because you have more books in you. 🙏🏾
