How I Kept My Oldest Relationship Strong for Years!

Our friendship is about harmony and balance, and spans over 55 years

What’s our secret?

  • Hands off each other’s boyfriend, man, or partner. That goes without saying. We did not flirt or cross boundaries.
  • She was allowed to have her friends, and I was allowed to have my friends. Some of her friends I liked, some I didn’t, and some of my friends she liked, and others she didn’t. However, we never allowed it to interfere with our relationship.
  • We were protective over our relationship, and I never allowed anyone to trash-talk her to me.
  • We did not borrow money from each other.
  • We never lived together
  • We have always kept in contact with each other even though we no longer live in the same state.
  • We were never envious or jealous of each other.
  • When there is a crisis, we are there for each other.
  • I do not share her intimate business with anyone.
  • We embrace each other’s family.
  • We understood boundaries – most were unsaid, we just understood them. If I had to put a word to it, the word would be respect. We respected each other’s right to think and feel as we wanted.
  • Because of her, I have learned to be a bit kinder to others, a little gentler, and more patient. There is a quote I read that said “A best friend brings out the best in you.”

Love you, girl!

“One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”

Proverbs 18:24

Proverbs 17:17

“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.”
