How to Stop Complaining

How to Stop Complaining

Have you ever caught yourself talking about the same problem over and over again?

You tell a friend. Then you tell another friend. You replay the situation in your mind. You explain why it happened, why it isn’t fair, and why you don’t think anything is going to change.

I’ve done it.

And then one day I had to ask myself a difficult question:

What if I spent as much time praying about my problems as I do talking about them?

That question changed something in me.

There is nothing wrong with acknowledging that something is wrong. God doesn’t ask us to pretend everything is wonderful when it isn’t. He invites us to bring our concerns to Him.

Philippians 4:6–7 (NIV) tells us not to be controlled by anxiety but to bring everything to God through prayer, petition, and thanksgiving. Then comes the promise: God’s peace will guard our hearts and minds.

Notice what Scripture doesn’t say.

It doesn’t say we will never have problems or we will never be afraid.

It tells us what to do when the problems come.

Pray

  • Prayer Is More Than Asking
  • Prayer is communication with God.
  • It is telling God the truth about where we are while trusting Him with where we’re going.

Prayer isn’t a magic formula, and our words matter to God.

Because they reveal what we are rehearsing and what we are allowing to occupy our hearts and minds.

What have we been repeatedly saying about our lives?

What have we been repeatedly saying about our future?

And what have we been repeatedly saying about ourselves?

It makes a difference.

Proverbs 18:21 (NIV) reminds us that life and death are in the power of the tongue.

We should take a moment to think about our words. What we say can shape who we are. Each word has its own weight and energy, affecting our reality and how others see us. By expressing our thoughts with kindness and care, we create a positive environment that supports growth and understanding for all. And soon our prayer life will reflect that as well.

Next time we will finish up with Part 2.

Amen
