How to Protect Your Mind
How to Protect Your Mind
A Daily Mental Decluttering Question
Before you end each day, ask yourself:
“What am I carrying that I need to give to God?”
Then name it.
Don’t just say, “I’m worried.”
Say, “Lord, I’m worried about my finances.”
“Lord, I’m worried about my family.”
“Lord, I’m worried about tomorrow.”
Be specific.
God already understands the weight of your troubles. When you pray, you can bring those burdens directly to Him and find comfort in knowing you don’t have to carry them alone. “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)
Think about how overwhelming it feels when your home, car, or even one room becomes filled with clutter. The more we pile up, the harder it becomes to find what we truly need. Sometimes we even buy duplicates because we can’t find what we already have. Before long, the clutter creates frustration, stress, and a sense of being overwhelmed.
Our minds can become cluttered in much the same way. We pile on worries, responsibilities, disappointments, and thoughts about things we cannot control. Just as we need to clear out our physical spaces, we also need to make room in our minds for God’s peace.
Because our mind can work the same way.
When our thoughts are racing from one obligation to the next, jumping from one stressful situation to another, and constantly shifting from putting out one fire to the next, it can feel as though there is hardly any space left for peace.
Remember This
Your mind and peace deserves protection
Your attention deserves protection.
And your relationship with God deserves your attention.
You don’t have to mentally carry everything that life places in front of you.
Some things you handle.
Some things need to be released and some things need to be written down.
Additionally some things simply need to be placed in God’s hands.
It’s completely okay not to feel the need to engage with everything just because it’s within reach. There are certainly things you can choose to let go of entirely, and others where you might find it helpful to scale back a bit.
Grace and peace.
I’ll finish with Part 2 this week.
Amen
