Cultivating Wisdom: How to Transition from Foolish to Wise Right Now!
Each week, I pull a verse or two from the book of Proverbs and break it down as best as possible with God’s wisdom and discernment. I started with Chapter 1 in August 2023. I have not covered every verse; however, I have covered every chapter thus far. If you have missed some, here is the link to catch you up.
Proverbs Chapter 8 contrasts wisdom with a woman or uses wisdom as a metaphor for a woman. I will save this chapter for May and create a piece about women and wisdom.

Today, we will delve into Proverbs Chapter 9
Verse 7
Some people think that they are great. You may tell them that they should not say bad words. But they will say bad things about you. Do not tell an evil man that he is wrong. If you do, he will attack you.
Verse 8
Do not tell these people that they are wrong. If you do, they will hate you. You can tell a wise man that he is mistaken. If you do, he will love you.
Verse 9
Anything that you say to wise men will cause them to be wiser. Good men will learn whatever you tell them.
Have you ever had that person in your life who gets into trouble? You see them walking into the fire; some even run towards it, like they are drawn to it.
Instead of heeding your warning, they continue to walk towards the fire, and when they get burned, they either do not understand how that could have happened or why we did not stop them. Really?
When we told you maybe it would not be a good idea to go on that trip when you have bills due, and you go anyway. Return from your beautiful trip only to find that your bills are mounting, and the debt collectors are calling you.
You are stressed and trying to pull those around you into your wrong choice by asking to borrow money from everyone while getting into further debt. It’s frustrating to witness someone close to you repeatedly making decisions that lead to negative consequences.
But first let us recap before we proceed.

Empower Your Life: Proverbs 7 – Three Big Lessons
The chapter delves deep into the theme of committing to one’s intimate and sexual love. Solomon’s insights into love and relationships are thought-provoking, given his experiences. And that we should save these experiences for spouse/partners
Today, we are on Proverbs chapter 9.
Although we try to provide advice and warnings, some individuals seem to be attracted to hazardous situations, leading them to face difficulties. Observing these people struggling with the consequences of their actions can be frustrating and confusing, particularly when they seek our help.
In such relationships, finding a balance between showing compassion and safeguarding our well-being is crucial.
Encouraging accountability and self-reflection might offer them growth opportunities, but ultimately, we cannot control their choices or shield them from all the repercussions of their actions.
Finding peace amid their turbulence requires patience and boundary-setting as we strive to support them without enabling their destructive patterns. While it’s natural to feel a sense of responsibility, we must remember that individuals must ultimately learn from the consequences of their own choices.”

Verse 7
Or said another way.
He who gives teaching to a man of pride is ashamed; he who says sharp words to a sinner gets a bad name. B.B.E.
It’s true that when you try to help someone who keeps making bad decisions, you may become frustrated with them. Unfortunately, they may turn on you and treat you like the enemy, and this treatment can leave you feeling hurt, surprised, and shocked.
Furthermore, if you have loaned them money due to their bad financial decisions, chances are you won’t get your money back. I am just saying that with these people if you give them money, you probably won’t see it again. So, make sure you give from your abundance, not your bills. Otherwise, you will be in the same situation as them.
I have learned this: Always be willing to pray for them. Your decision will be how much you will let them in your life. But understand the road they will choose will always be theirs.
Verse 8
Do not tell these people that they are wrong. If you do, they will hate you. You can tell a wise man that he is mistaken. If you do, he will love you. Easy English
Or said another way.
Do not say sharp words to a man of pride, or he will have hate for you; make them clear to a wise man, and you will be dear to him. B.B.E.
A person who insists on going through life the difficult way without guidance from God’s wisdom and discernment will have a hard time in just about everything they do unless they decide differently.
However, on the other hand, when wise men hear wisdom, they will soak it up, appreciate it, and be blessed by it.

Verse 9
Anything that you say to wise men will cause them to be wiser. Good men will learn whatever you tell them Easy English
Or said another way.
Give teaching to a wise man, and he will become wiser; give training to an upright man, and his learning will be increased. BBE
A “wise man” or “upright person” is not perfect but someone who tries to follow the right path and live according to God’s teachings. They always strive to make ethical decisions based on their values and beliefs, even if they make mistakes. Despite their setbacks, they are quick to get back up and continue on their journey towards righteousness.

Have you ever wondered why specific individuals seem to elude punishment for their actions? Despite facing hardships, they appear to lack the introspection and self-awareness necessary to change their ways, instead returning to their old habits without a second thought.
These behavior patterns persist, even as they move from place to place, seeking new targets and opportunities to repeat the same mistakes. It’s a perplexing phenomenon that leaves us wondering why some people never seem to learn from their past experiences.
However, if you know someone like that, be it friends or family, or you may see yourself doing this, guess what? You do not have to stay that away. It is all about realizing who your source is, hearing, listening, and then doing.
Cultivating Wisdom: How to Transition from Foolish to Wise Right Now!
There are some things a foolish person can do right now to start changing their negative into a positive. They can begin practicing the L.A.W by using God’s wisdom and discernment. You can guess that L.A.W. is an acronym for –
L – Listen
A – Action
W – Words
Listen
Listen like the wise person in verse 9. When wise people hear wisdom, they will soak it up and be blessed, not resentful and unappreciative.
My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.
James 1:19 NIV
Action
Action – this means moving towards doing something and, in this case, starting to do what God says about you and not what others say about you or you say about yourself.
If it is negative, push that aside because you can do everything through Christ Jesus. Guess what? He is your strength. And you have God’s wisdom and understanding because, guess what again, you asked for it. God said all you have to do is ask for wisdom, and He will give it to you. It is a gift.
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.
James1:5
Words
Words – Your words are life; whatever you say, you will have. Hear what comes out of your mouth. And begin to replace them with what God says about you and your situation.
Words are able to save life and to cause death. So, you must accept the result of what you say.
Proverbs 18:21
Summing Up
It can be tough to navigate life’s challenges without guidance and wisdom from a higher power. But it’s never too late to seek that guidance and make a change. Remember, when we listen to wise advice and open ourselves up to the blessings that come with it, we can find our way through even the toughest of times.
