I am thrilled to present a collection of five awe-inspiring lessons straight from Chapter 3 OF PROVERBS!
Today, we will lay the foundation for chapter three, connecting each subsequent post. Get ready to connect the dots on some straightforward lessons where we can apply these principles in our lives today and pass on these great teachings to the next generation!
Today, I want to discuss three life-changing things that Solomon tells his son that will happen if he does two things.

Proverbs Chapter 3:1-2
Verse One – My, son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart,
Or said another way but the same thing –
“Son, always remember my teachings and let them guide you. Keep my commands close to your heart and follow them faithfully.”
Why?
Verse Two – For they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity.
Or said another way.
following these principles or rules can greatly increase your existence and foster peace and prosperity. There are some great takeaways from these two scriptures. Solomon is speaking with his son. And we can only assume that, as a father, he would want the best for his son.
That Solomon himself, by then, had seen plenty, done plenty, and had acquired much. So now, he wanted to impart wisdom to his son to help him along life’s journey, help him avoid making the same mistakes he did, and help him succeed in life.
And we would want the best for our loved ones -So let us take a read and see what he is saying.
In verse one, Solomon tells his son two things.
Don’t forget and remember. But not only to not forget but to remember and to keep what he is getting ready to share close to his heart.
Here, Solomon is telling his son not only not to forget but to keep this information in his heart, which is an idiom for keeping it near and dear to him.
We can do many things daily; most do not hold them close to their hearts. Sometimes, we process and retain the information. Sometimes, we do not and then move on to the next thing.
However, if it is important,
we will keep the information near and dear to us. For example, I remember my children, grandchildren, and immediate family member’s birthdays; I remember when each of my children and grandchildren was born and what I thought and felt at the time of their births.
However, I would draw a blank if you asked the name of the hospital, they were born in. I could give you the city and state, but they would be it.
If you asked me what I ate last week, what I had last Wednesday, I could not tell you – I could guess, but I would not be sure, or I would have to take some time to recall the information.
That would be because I did not allow the information to lodge in my heart. It is irrelevant to me to remember those things, so they immediately get pushed aside to make room for the relevant things.
However, if you asked me
when I last spoke with my dad, I could tell you the day, time, and what we said. That was earlier this week.
But here, in verse two, Solomon tells his son that this is important enough that he wants these commands and these rules to become a part of him.
So, let us see why Solomon is telling his son to keep these commands, rules, and laws in his heart…
Verse Two – For they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity.
Because they will do three things – Let us take a look at the first reason.
Prolong your life –
We can do many things today to prolong our lives by positively changing our diet, exercising, and staying on top of our mental health. We could not text while driving or not drive while intoxicated, do not run into traffic, or put on our seat belts. The world tells us to do this through ads and commercials to preserve and prolong our lives.
But here, Solomon is saying much more than that in this chapter. And as we continue to read chapter three, we will find out what those are. We are laying the foundation right now: if you remember and keep what I say close to you, you will live longer.
Peace –
There are so many benefits, advantages, and great things to experiencing peace. First, there is inner and outer peace; both are truly needed to thrive. First, your sleep is sounder, and there is inner calmness and more patience; you can better handle life’s affairs and issues without losing your cool and focus. With outer peace, you can connect with nature and see and appreciate God around you.
Prosperity –
Prosperity can mean different things to different people. Some would like to become prosperous money-wise to live a more comfortable life; there is nothing wrong with that desire. Others want to prosper in relationships. Amen to both.
Remember –
These two verses emphasize the importance of embracing and internalizing teachings, holding them close to the heart.
Following these commandments can unlock many positive things in your life, which we will begin to delve into next time.
Embrace the power of these timeless principles, as they have the potential to enrich your life with longevity, serenity, and abundance.
Wisdom knows no bounds! It’s not just about age or life experiences. You can find pearls of wisdom in the imaginations of kids, fresh perspectives in young adults‘, and wise elders’ reflections. So, let’s embrace the endless possibilities of wisdom, shall we? Because it is all around us.
