Wisdom of it all

Practical Ways to Embrace the Wisdom of Helping in Your Daily Life

As we approach the holiday season, a time of giving, gratitude, and generosity, I am reminded of two particular scriptures that resonate with the spirit of this time.

These verses encourage us to reflect on the blessings we have received and inspire us to extend that kindness and generosity to others.

It is a beautiful reminder that this season is about giving gifts and spreading love, joy, and kindness to those around us.

Verse 27

Do not refuse to do good things to those that need it. Always do good things to them when you can.

Proverbs Chapter 3

Verses 24 – 26

When you go to bed, you will not be afraid and will sleep well.

Bad things happen to evil men. But you will not have to fear bad things that might surprise you.

You can trust the Lord; He will not let you fall into a hole that evil men have dug.

Easy English

You can go to bed without fear and sleep soundly, knowing that bad things happen only to bad people. You do not have to worry about any sudden misfortunes that might come your way because you can trust in the Lord. He will protect you from pitfalls the wicked might have dug for you.

After taking care of ourselves by ensuring our safety and getting enough rest, Verse 27 of the text reminds us of our duty to extend a helping hand to those in need, provided we can do so. It emphasizes the importance of being compassionate and empathetic towards others, especially during distress.

Proverbs Chapter 3

Verse 27

Do not refuse to do good things to those that need it. Always do good things to them when you can.

It is essential always to be willing to help those in need. When you encounter someone who needs assistance, do not hesitate to offer your support.

Whether through a kind word, a helping hand, or a monetary donation, any act of kindness can significantly impact someone’s life.

Remember that we are all connected and that by helping others, we are ultimately helping ourselves. So, be open to opportunities to do good and always strive to make a positive difference in someone’s life.

When I used to read this scripture and to be honest, sometimes my first thought was. I cannot do much otherwise; people will take advantage of my kindness.

As I reflect on my experiences, there are multiple instances where I have been taken advantage of by others. These individuals had taken advantage of my kindness, generosity, and willingness to provide them with a roof over their heads, food, money, clothes, and other necessities. Only after some time did I realize that my trust had been misplaced and I had been exploited for their benefit.

These experiences have made me more cautious and discerning in my interactions with others as I strive to protect myself from being taken advantage of in the future.

Learning to balance was crucial because life happens, and we must use wisdom and discernment when helping others.

The Other Story

I once found myself stranded, which was a new experience. Although it was during daylight hours, I had no cell phone. However, three different vehicles stopped to offer their help.

The first was a truck driver, the second was a family, and the third was someone who appeared to be a deacon, or a person dressed for a spiritual service. Each one of them had good intentions and truly wanted to help me. Their kindness made me incredibly grateful and inspired me to pay it forward someday. Some things that I learned.

It is essential to consider the potential consequences before loaning or giving away your resources.

When you give away your last bit of something, you may not have anything left for yourself when you need it most. It is always better to be prepared for unforeseen circumstances and keep a portion of your resources for yourself.

Additionally, lending or giving away all your resources may encourage others to depend on your generosity, creating an unhealthy relationship dynamic. Therefore, being thoughtful and strategic when sharing your resources with others is recommended. Someone else’s emergency is not necessarily your emergency.

It is essential to stand your ground regarding your possessions and money. It would be best never to let anyone make you feel guilty or obligated to do something or give away your hard-earned money.

  • Remember that you can say no and prioritize your financial stability.
  • Setting boundaries and communicating them is important to avoid misunderstandings or conflicts.
  • Remember that your possessions and money reflect your hard work and should be respected.
  • It is your responsibility to be a good steward of the things God has blessed you with.
  • You are responsible for who or what God has blessed you with.
If you do not have the total amount to loan but can give a portion, then provide that.

Remember that necessities like food, water, oxygen, warmth, clothing, and sleep should always be prioritized over luxuries when someone asks for a loan.

Providing for these needs shows our compassion and humanity to those around us. Let us not forget that our actions can positively impact those in need, whether the homeless, the destitute, or the single parent trying to make ends meet.

Proverbs Chapter 3

Verse 28

Do not ask anyone to wait until tomorrow if you can help them today.

This simple yet powerful statement reflects the importance of taking timely action to assist others. When we encounter someone in need, we should strive to lend a helping hand as soon as possible, rather than postponing or delaying our support.

By offering our assistance promptly, we demonstrate our empathy, reliability, and commitment to those around us. Whether it’s a friend seeking advice, a colleague requesting help with a project, or someone reaching out for a listening ear, being available and responsive shows that we value their time and concerns.

Procrastination can inadvertently convey a lack of care or interest, and asking someone to wait unnecessarily may lead to frustration or disappointment. Time is a precious resource, and people greatly appreciate when their needs are acknowledged and addressed promptly.

In our fast-paced world, where instant gratification is often sought after, being proactive in helping others can make a significant difference in their lives. It can help alleviate stress, provide much-needed support, and foster a sense of trust and community.

Moreover, addressing someone’s needs promptly not only benefits them individually but also contributes to a more efficient and interconnected society. When we prioritize helping others today instead of putting it off until tomorrow, we create a ripple effect that can inspire positive change and encourage others to do the same.

Instead of asking people to wait until tomorrow, let’s seize the opportunity to help them today. By being proactive, empathetic, and responsive, we can make a meaningful impact on the lives of others and cultivate a culture of support and compassion.

In conclusion remember, a small act of assistance today can bring about a brighter and more connected future for everyone.
